[Code Inspection] 'glossaries-extra' is not recognized as sufficient for the '\newacronym' command

Issue

If you try to specify an acronym to use in a glossary without using exactly the glossaries package, it will flag it as an error. It will still run just fine if you have the glossaries-extra package imported, however (as I understand it, it just imports glossaries by itself instead). Strangely, it seems other glossary associated functions (like \makeglossaries and \printglossaries) do not suffer from this issue.

EDIT: Upon a further testing, this also happens when you try to reference an acronym entry using \gls also results in this error. As I continue to write the document, I'll report anything else that comes up as well

To replicate

1. Generate a new file
2. Add the glossaries-extra package to the used package list with \usepackage{glossaries-extra}
3. Attempt to define a new acronym with \newacronym{mri}{MRI}{Magnetic Resonance Imaging}

It should flag the newacronym command as an error, requiring importing the glossaries package to resolve. Going to build the document will work just fine, however (assuming you have all other prerequisites for a valid LaTeX file, anyways)

Upon further testing, glossary generation for acronyms w/ glossaries-extra appears to be bugged as well. If you attempt to build a document with an acronym glossary and the automake argument, while the document will build, it will fail to generate the corresponding .gls file and thus the document will contain the "malformed Glossary" warning:

If you generate this file externally, and place it either in the output directory or the same directory as the .tex file, it will work just fine, however, generating the acronym glossary as expected.

I'm not sure if this is a situation similar to how BibTex works (where it needs to detect the presence of the appropriate command to update how it runs), but it seems to be based on it working just fine if the file exists already. If I had any idea where the respective code is in the code-base I'd try to test some fixes myself, but I can't seem to find it...

Ho, let's take this one issue at a time, because I think you are speaking about two separate issues.

1. TeXiFy will look at glossaries-extra.sty and check if it includes the glossaries package. For me this works as expected and I don't get an inspection error, so if you could provide more information this would be really helpful.

• What LaTeX installation are you using, MiKTeX or TeX Live?
• If TeX Live, did you install it the official way or via your package manager?
• Is it in PATH such that which pdflatex points to the correct directory?
• Do you have "enable external index" enabled in Settings > Languages > TeXiFy?
• Could you go to Help > Diagnostic Tools > Debug Log Settings and add #nl.hannahsten.texifyidea.util.Log, then restart PyCharm, reproduce the problem, and then via Help > Show Log upload idea.log?
• Does the problem also occur in IntelliJ?
• If yes, is it still there if you select a LaTeX SDK as project SDK and restart?

2. Are you trying to say that the functionality for glossaries is broken, or just for acronyms? Please read https://github.com/Hannah-Sten/TeXiFy-IDEA/wiki/Makeindex and if it doesn't work as expected, please create a new issue with a minimal example to reproduce the problem.

Thank you for responding so quickly. Once I can do more testing re: Makeindex I'll post a second issue on it.

As for this question, turns out, despite requesting it be updated several times, I was running a 2021 version of Tex Live installed using apt. Manually installing the newest 2023 version fixed this (even if the process of manually installing Tex Live added a few grey hairs). The Makeindex problem persists, however

Yeah it's better to install the official way usually, I think the apt repositories have the installation in such a way that it becomes difficult for TeXiFy to find the distributions source files, unless you use IntelliJ and set up a Native TeX Live SDK.
