Foom

The free open zoom

The importance of access to communication channels and human connection is impossible to overestimate. With the recent events of the Coronavirus pandemic, the need for easy to use video chat has never been greater. In addition to this, as the world moves ever more toward high-tech labor, labor as digital asset creation, tradtitional enterprises such as writing sessions, painting classes, playing music, and many other lovely human collaborative interactions, have been increasingly difficult to access without pay-for services, or services that sell your personal information to advertisers, or services that obfuscate the routing of the UDP transmission carrying your personal information.

Foom intends to fill this gap, by providing free access to quality video chat for anyone involved with creative and artistic projects. For comercial projects, Foom will be available at a reasonable price, at-cost to HeyRobot, and covering the cost for the Pro Bono users. You are also free to fork the repository and deploy the code yourself.

Foom is maintained by HeyRobot, a California Limited Liability Corporation. It is Apache 2.0 licensed software that was forked from the OpenVidu project. We wish to appreciate the tremedous thought and effort and care that was put into this project before we even knew it existed. We'd like to thank all the free software and open source developers that have helped make this project possible. Without them we would not be here. Any advancements made in the Foom project will be happily shared with others working on the OpenVidu or associated projects.

The Foom website occasionally uses images in the public domain. Copyright cannot be claimed on exact reproductions of copyright-free material, that is to say, copyright cannot be claimed on unaltered photographs of copyright free material. Please get in contact if you have copyright concerns. See The Bridgeman Art Library, Ltd., vs. Corel Corporation, “exact reproductions of public domain artworks are not protected by copyright.” We do not intend to steal anyones work, but rather desire to provide a useful and beautiful public-square for conversation, that is insipred by the great artists of the past.

Please contact admin@heyrobot.shop with any questions you may have, or if you'd like to use Foom for free for your project.
