It appears that in 1.45.0 they've switched to CMake/ninja.

A couple things left at least on this:

• set up the var paths properly in the build, because currently the build is expecting those to be within the install prefix
• figure out if we need to do anything for UUID_LIBS on Linux
• see if we should be configuring different plugins (via cmake args) on Linux, I took the list directly from the build script but there might be mac-specific configs in there
