What is the purpose of afflib.rb? I'm confused.

This pull request/commit updates the afflib "formula" for Homebrew to point to version 3.7.1.

Okay. Thanks. So every time I create a new release of AFFLIB, you need to create a new pull request here? That doesn't seem very efficient. Isn't there a way to simply reference the most recent version?

That would be extremely fragile. Software often changes significantly with new releases and the formula files require more than just a version update in order to cope with new features, buildsystems, bugs, quirks, etc.

There won't be any more significant changes to AFFLIB v3. The project is in maintenance mode. AFFLIBv4 is a completely different code-base.

Right, but when proposing something like automatic version tracking we have to consider the entire Homebrew ecosystem of ~2000 software packages---most of which are not in maintenance mode.
