I want to have a section of my homepage with the contributors to the project, but link to external websites. I've customized the partial template to have the correct links/format, but the website still has the generated "website.com/authors/username" pages, with just the template information.

I've seen #982 discuss the issue with publication authors, but not with the widget. Is there an existing way to disable these pages, but keep the people widget functioning?

Please use the forums or chat for questions/troubleshooting.

The People widget requires user pages in order to function. You may find that the code needs modifying in order to meet your requirements.

Hi, @jeichenhofer,
do you have an option to meet this requirement?

Sorry, I never followed through with the project, so I never found a way around this. Perhaps some changes have been made since then in the theme code, though.
