Can you run Cawbird from the console with I suspect it's network issues that we can't do anything about, but I can't be sure. The second screenshot says no plugin, so it's a Gstreamer problem and you (somehow) don't have the right mpeg plugins. |

That link works fine for me. Based on the GStreamer-Plugins-Bad code then it's definitely a download error, and we just point GStreamer at a URL. If you can run The only way that I can find to get the URL (other than using a debug build of Cawbird and using the keyboard shortcuts to dump the JSON for the tweet) is to open the tweet in a browser, open the Inspector tools, go to the "Network" tab, refresh the page and find the "video.twimg.com" URL. I've not been able to find anything about the other error yet. Someone else has reported the same "consecutive failures" error and then a similar codec error, but that was failing on The other debugging option is running |

Thanks for the hints. So far it looks like a gstreamer bug at least on NixOS-20.09, when rebuilding cawbird against NixOS unstable the issue disappears. |

What are the version differences between the NixOS systems? Just trying to understand whether there's anything specific that we can flag (like when GnuTLS had a bug) |

GStreamer 1.16.3 vs 1.18.2. Probably more relevant things as well, but there's a lot of packages in there! I'm running 1.18.4 and not seeing the problem. I don't know what the Snap packages in terms of GStreamer. And it's an unofficial package. |

GStreamer v1.18.2 lists "adaptivedemux/dashdemux/hlsdemux fixes" in the release notes. Which is exactly what we're having issues with here. And I can imagine that issues in an adaptive system could result in some quite weird "I couldn't parse that frame properly" kind of errors. On the basis of NixOS unstable being fine and the core of this being an apparent download error then I'm inclined to close it as an external issue that we can't fix. Distros either need to update to v1.18.2 or later, or backport whatever was fixed in that version to v1.16. |

At least I do indeed handle it like this, with a new NixOS release on the horizon by the end of May I just wait as long as nobody complains ^^ |

One more note:
As long as the message "Fragment downloading has failed consecutive times" has come together with other gstreamer errors like the ones I've mentioned, I strongly assume that not even a real network download error has to play a role there. With a solid cable network connection, I exclusively got these messages in the Cawbird build against the old gstreamer, not in the simultaneously running one with a fixed gstreamer. |
True. It could be a false network failure. But it could also be some glitches in Twitter's servers, problems with SSL, or some other network-related corner case that would otherwise be handled by the adaptive part of adaptivedemux. But complete false-positive may be just as likely. |

Read a bit more and it does look like a GStreamer Plugins Bad change may have fixed it after another change tried to work around HTTP header issues, and given that the original issue mentions YouTube then it could well have been backported by distros to 1.16. |

I had the same issue with Cawbird installed from Ubuntu software / Snapcart on Ubuntu 21.10. I removed it and installed the recommended way: https://software.opensuse.org/download.html?project=home%3AIBBoard%3Acawbird&package=cawbird and now it works. |

It's almost certainly a bug in GStreamer. Unfortunately, Flatpak and Snap start bundling packages like that into the installer or the base platform rather than taking them from the OS, so your distro can update its libraries and your still stuck with a broken library inside the Flatpak/Snap. I'm glad the native packages worked :) |

~80% of media shows this message when I try to open it. Is it a media encoding bug?
