https://dataverse.org/software-features is out of date (screenshot below), last updated around June 2019.

I propose we update that it using the same process we used in IQSS/dataverse.org#65 (when 4.12 was new) which was

sprint:

  • last updated in 2019
  • needs attention to list things that have been added since.
  • Maybe a group meeting to order and choose.
  • Phil did this last in 2019
  • small.

Does not require a developer to do.
Could be completed for example by @jggautier

I just updated https://dataverse.org/software-features and asked the community for feedback:

Here's how it looks right now:

Here's the data and the script so far:

I'll wait until I'm done tweaking to move this to review but feedback is welcome!

I'm done tweaking and I'm moving this to review. Here's a screenshot (again I'm making changes to https://dataverse.org/software-features so it's already live). Feedback is still welcome!

Here's a TSV of the data too (same Python script as my last comment):

Thanks for the discussion in standup.

I mentioned that there was a little discussion in Slack. For those with access, here's a direct link: https://dataversecommunity.slack.com/archives/C5V66TV6Y/p1651784625299599

To summarize, there are idea for how to improve this page in the future:

  • Break up the list of features based on target audiences (data submitters, users/requesters, repository operations). The spreadsheet already has a little of this but isn't used in the HTML output.
  • Visual indication of if the feature is a plugin or a setting, useful when reviewing featuring and thinking about enabling new ones.
  • Compare to the "DV System Config Options by level" doc ("When configuring a Dataverse installation, administrators define the following settings that impact the UX & UI of their installation"): https://docs.google.com/document/d/1IwkUxI_kXgJo6x_Ex5mdAtcKnorsrfBd5honmVkLF3c/edit?usp=sharing . I did take a look at this doc but I didn't find much new to incorporate into the list of features. Many of the features are small and probably not important enough to list. For example, yes, you have control over password complexity rules.

Might be helpful to group similar features together, too:
