Documentation has been updated as well. Use the bashrc hook to normalize {C,CXX,LD}FLAGS before building a package. This solves Issue #15

It appears that the
media-video/ffmpeg
ebuilds will add--enable-lto
to the configuration even if you have-fno-lto
active as the newest overrides do. This can lead to build errors. I'm just creating an issue here to track this.See this bugzilla comment about a fix: https://bugs.gentoo.org/566282#c6
I'm testing a patched ebuild in my own overlay and it appears to be working. It looks like a bug should be filed upstream about this--I'll make one when I get some time (unless someone else wants to do so first--if you do, please link the bug here)
