EnviroAtlas Layers added via the "Add Web Map" tool should behave like EnviroAtlas layers #243
Comments
Could you specify which widget add "layers via web maps"? There are three widgets grouped in "Add Data Tools"----They are: "Add Online Data", "Add Data from Web Map" and "Upload Data". I have tested each of the widget and the URLs could be recognized/opened. Also, what icon and menu options should be added, and for which widget? |
You are right about how many different options we have, so I guess the
short answer is that it shouldn't matter what channel an EnviroAtlas layer
comes through, we need something on the table of contents side that gets
triggered whenever any new layer is added from any channel, and checks to
see if the URL contains "enviroatlas.epa.gov" (or, I suppose, "leb.epa.gov")
and if so, causes it to behave as if it was loaded through the normal layer
list widget, with all of the metadata, dynamic symbology, etc. choices in
the menu.

The current metadata, datafactsheet information for added layers all comes from config.json file. |
Ahhhh. If I understand correctly, ESC_DNC_CleanAir is one of the many
legacy services, and I had no intention of suggesting that we do anything
automatically with those services, which I believe we will slate for
decommissioning when the new site is launched (though it may take some time
before we remove them completely). So the definition of "EnviroAtlas
Layers" is really restricted to those layers listed in our config.json
file. It might still make sense to first filter for enviroatlas.epa.gov so
we're not comparing every full URL against the long list of layers in the
config.json file, but ultimately it's the list of layers in the config.json
that matters.

If a layer is added via web maps, one way to get its metadata and
datafactsheet is to find a mapping from its URL to our exist config.json.
But I cannot figure out a way to find such mapping.
For example, layer "https://enviroatlas.epa.gov/arcgis/rest/services/
Communities/ESC_DNC_CleanAir/MapServer/2" could be added through widget
"Add Data from Web Map" and select the first item. But I cannot find any
layer in config.json whose URL contains words "ESC_DNC_CleanAir". How to
resolve this issue?

Somehow the code should recognize the URL for EnviroAtlas layers added via web maps and add the icons and menu options should be added.
