Criteria for domain choosing

For the sake of simplicity, we wanted reviews to be from one domain, e.g. reviews on movies. The would-be domain must have some properties:

  • it should be relatively easy to find paid reviews for this domain;
  • there must exist paid reviews for this domain;
  • russian community of reviews must be big enough.

Based on this criteria, we threw out reviews about any product group (e.g. smartphones) completely: no sane person would pay for reviews about one product.

Initial candidates

After brief voting, we came up with the following candidate domains:

  1. E-markets;
  2. Dentist's;
  3. Hotels;
  4. Youtube videos.

Each of us was responsible for one domain, and was searching for possible review sources for ~1.5 hour. Then we've discussed our findings and concluded E-markets to be the most perspective domain:

  • it has one big source of russian reviews: Yandex.Market (which gives instant review gathering);
  • we can deduce some heuristics for searching probable paid reviews (other domains appeared to be harder).
