[edit toolbar] excise selected text to new tiddler gives "old title 1" as tag #2531
Comments
Any tiddler that is a draft is technically doesn't exist yet. Even tiddlers who's title is changed still technically doesn't exist till the save is done. Personally I would not expect the excise to work on draft tiddlers even existing tiddlers who's drafts were changes but not saved yet. I can understand the confusion but the feature (IMHO) is working as designed. Perhaps better help text / documentation would fit this situation. |
I think we agree. As I said:
If there are no objections I will update the doc |
* Documentation of Using Excise text Documentation on the Excise text function. I propose that the Excise text drop down ( the tiddler: $:/language/Buttons/Excise/Caption/Tag) links to this doc. I don't have permission to (or don't know how to) edit that tiddler in github. I propose the following text for the drop-down tiddler: Tag new tiddler with the title of this tiddler (If the title is changed you have to Using Excise to use the new title as tag). see the issue: #2531 * Update Using Excise.tid changed headings in response to discussion * Doc for editor toolbar buttons (wikitext) Documentation for buttons special to the editor toolbar (wikitext) * Update Using Excise.tid placed it under the new Editor toolbar * Update Using Stamp.tid placed it under the new Editor toolbar tiddler * Update WikiText.tid added reference to Editor toolbar * Update Formatting text in TiddlyWiki.tid added reference to the Editor toolbar * Update WikiText.tid * Update Editor toolbar.tid * Update Editor toolbar.tid * Update Editor toolbar.tid * Update Editor toolbar.tid typo

When you clone a tiddler and change the title from "old title 1" to whatever.
When you use "excise selected text to new tiddler .." and check the "Tag new tiddler with the title of this tiddler", it will get the "old title 1" as tag, not the new title.
As the new title don't exist yet I can understand why it could be cumbersome to fix. Another solution could be to write a warning in the dialogue box.
The text was updated successfully, but these errors were encountered:
