This is in relation to the musescore#21399 and https://musescore.org/en/node/360642 topics

I figured I'd at least provide an advanced option for 3.x and request it over to you if you want to try it out. Does no harm, as it's an advanced option under the title: "ui/score/noteEntry/disableMouseEntry"

Would've done it for 4.x but don't know how advanced preferences work over there just yet since I don't really use it much. Anyways, when enabled, it will allow the user to select a note or a rest without placing anything there, and the note entry position will be updated to that element. If a staff-line is selected, nothing will happen, and if anything else is selected, note entry will exit and that element will be selected (clef/barline/staff text/etc)

Hopefully it may be of some use to someone to be tested or what have you.

…ect notes/rests while retaining Note Entry mode

If something other than a notehead/rest is selected, select it, but exit out of note entry (e.g., a clef or barline)
If a staff is selected, do nothing

Most probably not something I'd ever use myself, but certainly useful, so thanks for that!

Maybe you'd like to make some announcment in the above mentioned issue and/or forum topic?

Hello. I would be more than happy to try this out. Please tell me how to go about it (and excuse my ignorance ;-)) The version I have is:
OS: Windows 7 Version 6.1 (Build 7601: SP 1), Arch.: x86_64, MuseScore version (64-bit): 3.7.0.3637710033, revision: 366113d

Your version seems way to old, from Dec `22? Grab and install the latest, see https://github.com/Jojo-Schmitz/MuseScore?tab=readme-ov-file#testing

Thanks, I'll do this as soon as I get a little time.

Okay. And here I was thinking I'd have to immolate myself in front of the Paris Opera to get this.
May the good Lord give you both all you want of everything you love.
Now if there could just be a keystroke to toggle it on and off, it would be perfect.
