I think the wording is not strong enough to discourage ubuntu users from just trying

sudo apt-get install julia

I will suggest something like,

Ubuntu has deadlines for accepting new versions of software into their package manager, and only allows security fixes and minor bugfixes to be pushed out between major OS releases in april and october. Julia is developing at a fast phase, and while we try to be compatible with old code, new features are added that cause trouble if you use Julia code written for a newer version.
