Nice catch.

Will add to this:

  • same behaviour with emoticon tags such as " 🦒 " as found in LUP 489:

While looking at #507 I was curious if the tag was getting generated at all or just silently failing, and it looks like it's just silently failing 😞

I ran a grep command to find all the references to episode 489 in the tags folder (left side) and then I grep'ed out all the tags from the actual episode 489 (right side).

As you can see there is one more on the right side (episode page) than the left side (tags folders), I also did a ls to see if I could find a folder that would look like the unicode tag and I didn't...

So...more research to fully resolve this issue will be needed.

Why would you use an emoji as tag anyway? joy

I assume they used a giraffe because of the inside joke "giraffe-ene OS" instead of "GrapheneOS" smile

I noticed that in the markdown, the emoji 🦒 gets rendered as \ud83e\udd92.

I don't know enough about Hugo to provide a solution, but maybe the function emojify could be helpful (turn an emoji into text, then turn it back to an emoji when it's displayed). https://gohugo.io/functions/emojify/

Just wanna say... this Giraffe makes me happy, thanks for humoring us! (and future emoji shenanigans)

Turns out you can't have a 🦒 label for github issues. LAME!

Hmm maybe I miss-understood, since in my testing it renders the emoji in Chrome, FF, and Edge. You can disregard my comment above.

The episode seems to have published well, and surprisingly without too much hiccup:

The only expected break, which Wes fixed before publishing, was the visualizer used for certain video platforms:
