shitsu - tiny and flexible xmpp bot framework

Proposal

Obviously there are a huge bunch of various jabber bots available
but each that I had seen offer a-lot-of-commands rather than cool API.
shitsu aims to be pythonic, pep8-compatible, clean and simple framework
with the main purpose to make it easy to write a new module for your needs.

Features

  • Minimal core: such commands as alias/join/leave implemented as common
modules; even load/modprobe modules could be bootstraped
(you could load your load while you load).
  • Strong xhtml-im focusing - we should use all clients capabilities not
    just plain text.
  • Easy installation on both platforms, zero-dependency (except python).
  • Nice API, threading, ACL, ini-style config, aliases out of the box.

Installation

(There are a lot of methods - setuptools, distribute, pip, virtualenv,
etc. be we will examine the simpliest one.)

  • Windows

    1. Get the latest python 2.x from http://python.org/download/ and install it.
    2. Click the zip button at the top of this page, save and unpack.
    3. Go to the shitsu/shitsu directory and copy the file shitsu.example.cfg
to shitsu.cfg - there will be your config.
  • Linux (Debian example)

    1. sudo apt-get install python-pip git-core
    2. sudo pip install git+https://github.com/Kagami/shitsu.git
    3. shitsu and answer y - shitsu will create stub config in your home folder.

Configuration

jid, password and owner_jid options are required.
Other options meant to be self-documenting - read the comments.

On Linux: shitsu
Additional options can be obtained via --help option:

Options:
--version show program's version number and exit
-h, --help show this help message and exit
-d, --debug print additional debug info
-r, --reload reload shitsu's config and modules on the fly

Bot usage

To start simply send %help command to bot from owner's jid.
