There's two ways this could be corrected:

  • Define a comparator function for the taxonomic distance columns. See the ag-Grid documentation: https://www.ag-grid.com/javascript-grid-column-properties/.
  • Change the value back to an integer and define a valueFormatter method that translates the integer distances into human-readable string labels
