FED3 nosepoke lights

Want multi-color controllable LEDs inside of the nosepokes? Here is a simple mod to add them! It costs ~$7 to get an individually controllable RGBW LED inside of each poke, and will require some SMD soldering but is a relatively simple mod. You can purchase the PCB from Oshpark for ~$6 each in sets of 3:

PCB design files are also here so you can use any PCB manufacturer.

Instructions

1. Purchase all parts:

Two Neopixel LEDs ($6 for a 10-pack from Adafruit)
Two 10uF SMD capacitors (~6 cents each from Digikey)
Two 3mm clear plastic plugs available on Amazon.
A ~3cm piece of wire (any)
Solder and soldering iron (fine tip will be needed)

2. Disassemble FED3 to get the circuit board out. You will need to remove the FED3 electronics completely to do this mod.

3. Populate the PCB by soldering the two LEDs and capacitors onto it, and connecting G, 3V, and data line (the wire between the solder pad and LED8 no the FED3 PCB). Video of this part is here.

4. Drill 1/8" holes in FED3 housing and plug with plastic plugs before reassembly. Re-assemble FED3.
