with -vv lifxdex lib is pumping out message debug each frame.
Existing lib which is carried in our source ( not sure of the history here, not keen on it ) uses the root logger
These changes establish a lifxdev logger in line with the lib naming, and then suppresses to warning by default in ledfx main

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Refactor
    • Improved logging within the lifxdev library for enhanced clarity and consistency.

Walkthrough

The changes focus on standardizing logging practices in the ledfx project, particularly within the lifxdev library. By introducing a global logging level and shifting from direct logging calls to utilizing a logger instance acquired via get_library_logger, the project aims to ensure consistency in logging across the lifxdev library. This enhancement promotes easier maintenance and clearer code readability.

Changes

Files Summary
ledfx/__main__.py, .../libraries/lifxdev/messages/packet.py Set logging level for "lifxdev" to WARNING; replaced direct logging with get_library_logger instance.
ledfx/libraries/lifxdev/__init__.py, .../libraries/lifxdev/devices/device_manager.py Introduced get_library_logger function; updated logging calls to use logger instances from this function.

Chat

There are 3 ways to chat with CodeRabbit:

  • Review comments: Directly reply to a review comment made by CodeRabbit. Example:
    • I pushed a fix in commit <commit_id>.
    • Generate unit-tests for this file.
  • Files and specific lines of code (under the "Files changed" tab): Tag @coderabbitai in a new review comment at the desired location with your query. Examples:
    • @coderabbitai generate unit tests for this file.
    • @coderabbitai modularize this function.
  • PR comments: Tag @coderabbitai in a new PR comment to ask questions about the PR branch. For the best results, please provide a very specific query, as very limited context is provided in this mode. Examples:
    • @coderabbitai generate interesting stats about this repository from git and render them as a table.
    • @coderabbitai show all the console.log statements in this repository.
    • @coderabbitai read src/utils.ts and generate unit tests.
    • @coderabbitai read the files in the src/scheduler package and generate a class diagram using mermaid and a README in the markdown format.

Note: Be mindful of the bot's finite context window. It's strongly recommended to break down tasks such as reading entire modules into smaller chunks. For a focused discussion, use review comments to chat about specific files and their changes, instead of using the PR comments.

CodeRabbit Commands (invoked as PR comments)

  • @coderabbitai pause to pause the reviews on a PR.
  • @coderabbitai resume to resume the paused reviews.
  • @coderabbitai review to trigger a review. This is useful when automatic reviews are disabled for the repository.
  • @coderabbitai resolve resolve all the CodeRabbit review comments.
  • @coderabbitai help to get help.

Additionally, you can add @coderabbitai ignore anywhere in the PR description to prevent this PR from being reviewed.

CodeRabbit Configration File (.coderabbit.yaml)

  • You can programmatically configure CodeRabbit by adding a .coderabbit.yaml file to the root of your repository.
  • The JSON schema for the configuration file is available here.
  • If your editor has YAML language server enabled, you can add the path at the top of this file to enable auto-completion and validation: # yaml-language-server: $schema=https://coderabbit.ai/integrations/coderabbit-overrides.v2.json

ledfx/libraries/lifxdev/__init__.py (1)
  • 5-6: The implementation of get_library_logger correctly establishes a dedicated logger for the lifxdev library, aligning with best practices for logging in Python.
ledfx/__main__.py (1)
  • 99-99: Setting the logging level for "lifxdev" to WARNING within the setup_logging function is a strategic decision that aligns with the PR objectives to reduce verbosity. This change is correctly implemented.
ledfx/libraries/lifxdev/devices/device_manager.py (1)
  • 18-20: The introduction of a logger instance using get_library_logger() and the replacement of direct logging calls with this instance are correctly implemented, aligning with the PR objectives to standardize logging across the lifxdev library.
ledfx/libraries/lifxdev/messages/packet.py (6)
  • 16-16: The import statement for get_library_logger is correctly added to obtain the logger instance for the lifxdev library. This aligns with the PR objectives to standardize logging through a dedicated logger.
  • 22-22: The instantiation of the logger using get_library_logger() is correctly placed outside of any class or function, ensuring it is available globally within this module. This is a good practice for logging, as it allows for consistent use of the logger throughout the module.
  • 682-682: The assignment of self._log_func based on the verbose flag is a clever way to dynamically switch between logging levels (info and debug). This approach enhances the flexibility of logging, allowing for more or less verbosity as needed without changing the logging configuration.
  • 905-905: The use of log_func within the send method to conditionally log messages at either the info or debug level, depending on the verbose flag, is consistent with the approach taken in the PacketComm constructor. This consistency in handling verbosity across methods is commendable.
  • 925-925: Similarly, the use of log_func within the recv method to conditionally log messages at the appropriate level based on the verbose flag demonstrates a consistent and flexible approach to logging throughout the PacketComm class.
  • 16-16: While the import of get_library_logger is correctly placed, it's important to ensure that the ledfx.libraries.lifxdev module indeed contains this function. This is a critical dependency for the logging changes to work as intended.
