[Bug]: comments and posts made from 0.17.4 instance don't seem to be showing up on communities on 0.18.x instances

Summary

I'm on Beehaw that is still using 0.17.4, and none of my comments or posts in communities on 0.18 instances are showing up on the instances themselves even though they are visible via Beehaw. Some examples:

• this comment on !suomi@sopuli.xyz is not visible on the original instance (0.18.0)

• this post on !suomi@sopuli.xyz is not showing up on the original instance

• this post is not visible on !science@mander.xyz (0.18.0)

• this comment on !piracy@lemmy.dbzer0.com (0.18.0) is not visible on the original instance or eg. lemmy.blahaj.zone (0.18.1-rc.4-48-gf5378d0b4-kt.1)

Steps to Reproduce

1. Make an account on a 0.17.4
2. Make a comment or post on a 0.18 instance
3. Check on the 0.18 instance whether your comment appears there

Technical Details

Firefox 114.0.2, no errors in browser console when making comments or posts on 0.18.x instances

Ah, I missed that issue since I didn't look that far due to assuming this is a 0.18 problem. I'll close this one to reduce the noise

It should improve a lot as more of the network upgrades to 0.18.1 - messages sent from 0.17.4 are currently disregarded if they're older than 10 seconds (which is one of several causes for federation issues) and this lifetime is significantly increased in 0.18.1!
