I have 0.8.0-alpha installed and it didn't update to 0.8.0. Automated checking is not disable in user.behaviors and when I click "Check for updatesbutton on aVersion` tab, it says:
At latest version: 0.8.0-alpha
It should upgrade automatically, right? Do I need to download and unpack it again?
I am running Debian Stretch 64 bit.

Sorry for the delay. Correctly detecting x.x.x is an update from x.x.x-alpha is a known issue. It's not a high priority since it doesn't happen often but something we'll probably want to fix for 0.9.0-alpha to 0.9.0.
As for 0.8.0 upgrade, you will need to unpack it again because there is a new Electron binary. If there isn't a new Electron version then unpacking it isn't necessary.
