#How to use Krosswords When first starting, the settings window will appear. You can choose which sources you want to use to download puzzles from, and you can choose whether puzzles will automatically be downloaded when you start Krosswords while your kindle is connected.

If you decide not to download puzzles automatically, you can use the menu to trigger a manual download.

When you close the settings window, you will see the catalog view, which lists all puzzles currently available. Each puzzle has three icons; the first two icons represent the download state of the puzzle itself and of the puzzle's solution data. The third icon represents the state of the puzzle itself, distinguishing between "never played", "played", "marked as solved", "solved and verified" and "solved, verified, but your solution didn't correspond to the official solution".

When you tap a puzzle that's available for playing (leftmost icon must be a box with some lines in it), you'll enter the puzzle view. On the top you'll see the playing field and on the bottom the hints. Swipe across the hints to switch pages.

If you know the correct solution for a hint you can either tap the hint, tap the first letter in the playing field, or swipe along the word in the playing field to get into edit mode. The on-screen keyboard will appear and you can enter your word. At any time you can tap a letter on the playing field directly to get the cursor to that field. Press enter or press/swipe on the playing field outside of the area of your word to stop editing.

If the solution for your puzzle is available (second icon in the catalog view is a box with lines), two types of aid are available in the menu:

  • Verify Solution - all letters that you've already entered will be compared to the solution and all wrong ones will be marked.
  • Help Me - from all empty fields in your playing field, a single random one will be picked and filled with the correct letter. (It will also be marked so you can easily see which one it was).

If you choose "Verify Solution" when you have filled in all the letters in the puzzle already, the result of the validation will also be visible in the catalog view (little speech bubble with checkmark or X).
