clearly identify daly battery with. multiply batteries set up

Hi all

I have a setup with two daly BMS in my system and cannot distinct them automatically as the driver assigns the same name to the batteries. If the VRM instance or the USB port changes, I don't know which battery is No1 or No2.

So far (at least via MQTT) there is no value read out which distincts a battery clearly.

you corrected already the daly.py file. Would it be possibel to read out as well eg the battery production date or the battery code from the daly bms and publish it on MQTT? This way, one could set the date or the code accordingly to distinct the batteries as well in MQTT and further in nodered...

I'm open for other suggestions to solve this as well...

Hi,

it would be easy if we get the needed documentation. In any Daly protocol docs that I've seen, there's nothing like a serial number.
I think it would be possible to reengineer the traffic of the daly PCMaster software, but somebody has to spend the effort.

They even are able to set SOC, which would be very helpful. This way you could correct the SOC automatically via node red when it (as in my case) always only charges to 99.5%...

tried to test the hex strings with node red just to make sure they generate the answer which is expected. Somehow I run into problems:
When I send "\xa5\x40\x90\x08\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x7d" I expect to get an answer with "\xA5\x01\x90\x08" but this varies. Sometimes I get X94 or X91 instead of X91... (see attached picture where red is input and the array is the output)

I try to test this as my plan is to switch MOS from Noderred in the future, which, btw, does not work either. I'm not sure if I use the right syntax in the nodes. Would be much appreciated, if someone could check my Nodered flow...

What I see as well, just fyi: as soon as I activate the flow, the BMS is no longer connected to the bus-serialbattery driver and so not updated in venusOS. I need to deactivate the flow in Nodered to see the battery updated in VenusOS again. If we want to control the BMS via Nodered in the future, we need to find a way around that as well...

Hi,
I never really used node-red. But at least your request look ok and should generate the desired answer. BUT: you cannot talk to the BMS at the same time from node red and serialbattery. While using node red, serial battery has to be completely off. and even though, the serial probing of the other drivers would probably disturb your requests. That you get wrong answers clearly look like to stations talking on the same channel.
I would strongly recommend not to use node red for serial comm on venus.

Regarding your question about the trigger for resetting SOC in #31

What still would work is the approach mr-manuel has chosen with the dbus-mqtt-battery driver: if we could make the dbus-serialdriver script polling from the MQTT broker, the possibilities would be great: you could set SOC via MQTT but as well switch off charging or discharging MOS.
The communication with the daly BMS would still be handled via the driver, while the input of the values could be handled by the user or node red...

Ok, mqtt would be quite easy. But it sounds a bit strange to mix these communication types. More straight forward would be a message over dbus. Like you can switch modes of the multiplus by button in remote console. This way would be more standard and you can also trigger it by node red.

Thats all I needed. The driver now populates two more fields in the "Device" page. So you can identify your BMS by checking "serial number" and/or "device name".

and if possible check with ps how many serial-battery processes are running

because I have seen that old processes were not cleaned up correctly (that was while debugging, but just to be shure)
In that case a reboot should fix that.

We have always had issues with Daly BMS. Their comms protocol is badly designed. The amount of requests that has to be done and the baud speed used is terrible. This limits what can be transfered and how fast you can get a new set of data from the BMS.

battery.poll_interval was added to help with Daly's. So we can set a polling interval that is slower (e.g. 2sec) to give time to get all the data back before we request again.
But that is slow. So a poll_step was added (def refresh_data around line 80) so that we can get the important updates every second and others every 2 seconds).
If you add more requests (like identifiers and such) then these steps and poll intervals will need to be adjusted to give time for everything to complete.
Best is to start with changing Daly.py ln19 to
self.poll_interval = 2000
Then if that works tweeking it to the shortest values that works for everyone.

there are some more structural problems in the serial receive code. One is that the handling of packet length is broken, I fixed that for daly but can't do that for other BMS because I can't test. MrManuel and I decided to just fix it in Daly.py.

The other thing I mean is the central while loop that waits for the message bytes.
It loop 150 times if it doesn't receive enough bytes. There's a sleep(0.005) so you can think it takes 750ms max.

In reality it can take 15.75s because it hangs in serial.read() each time until it times aus after 100ms. This leads to huge stalls if there are communication issues and e.g. the request got lost.

With that informations there were very few no reply erros, but as soon as I removed the logging data I got a lot of errors. Then I added sleep(0.005) as first command in read_serialport_data() in the daly.py and now nearly all errors are gone. With sleep(0.020) all no reply errors are gone. Even, if I removed the polling steps.

Conclusion: Without the polling steps and the short sleep before opening the serial connection the refresh_data() is now taking about 650 ms. The sleep time can be dependend of the serial adapter and Daly BMS used. It also works with lower values, but I increased it a bit for greater compatibilty.
