MGE/MWSE Mods List

Updated: 2022/02/12

First grab MGE XE, then run MWSE-update.exe, and get the Morrowind Code Patch (MCP) for good measure.

This isn't a list of recommendations - it attempts to catelogue MWSE and MGE mods. Unless otherwise stated I don't vouch for quality or compatibility.

If a mod requires both MGE and MWSE I usually categorise it under MWSE.

July 8th - Sept 7th

Actual Illegal Resting - MWSE by Spammer
Makes Resting in towns and forts actually illegal instead of just impossible. Spammer always found it frustrating that because "resting is illegal here", he wasn't allowed to do it. Stealing and murdering are illegal too and he does it all the time. This is what this mod does, give you the choice.

Open the Door by C3pa
This mod opens the door you are looking at if within the activation distance. This saves you time and your spacebar. When a locked or trapped door is encountered a message written in the first person is shown to better communicate what your character might be thinking when trying to open a locked door.

Packrat Skill by MrGool
A new skill that lets you carry more stuff.

Effects Timers - MWSE by Spammer
Picture this: You are in a middle of a fight, swinging a bound longsword, when suddenly it vanishes right from your hand. The cast time is up, and because you had no idea how much time you had left, you're now defenseless against your opponnents. Frustrating, isn't it? This mod intends to give you a visual idea of how much time you still have.

Tamrielic MUSEings by Knots and GreenPactEthos

Companion Leveler by Kleidium
This MWSE mod allows both NPC and Creature companions to level up with the player based on their Class/Creature Type (Class Mode) or specific player selected build settings (Build Mode). In Class Mode, you also have the choice of changing the Class/Creature Type your companions level as. Companions are also able to learn spells and abilities.

Magicka Awakening 1 Illusion by biltjan
Improves Illusion effects as you level up in Illusion. Permanently calm/fear/rally/frenzy enemies, "steal" visions with blind, light reduce enemies willpower, charm makes buying things cheaper, sound applied after silence, chameleon applied after invisibility, drain speed applied after paralyze.

Coins renamed by Endify
Renames gold to Septims, and dwemer coins to dwemer dumacs

Key Broker - MWSE by Spammer
Adds an NPC that will buy all your useless keys. If you manage to sell him all keys in-game, he will become a master trainer in security and start selling you secretmaster lockpicks and probes.

Tea Merchants - an addon for Ashfall by JosephMcKean
Adds Tea Merchants to the game. Requires Ashfall.

Invisible Spell Effect Library by Tofystedeth
Tired of cluttering your spell list with unused copies of spells just in case you want to use their effects later in spellmaking or enchanting? Invisible Spell Effect Library keeps track of each unique effect you've learned, permanently, and puts them in the spellmaking and enchanting menus even if you don't have them in your spell list.

Fashionwind - MWSE Masks and Facewraps by Ruffin Vangarr
This mod adds various lore friendly Ashmasks, Menpos and face wraps with an MWSE script that allows them to be worn without hiding your hair or even taking up the helmet slot. (requires onion layers mod)

Friendly Intervention by Kleidium
A MWSE mod that allows any companion to teleport with the player when using Recall/Intervention spells for free or with restrictions/cost for more immersion. Mechanics configurable in the MCM.

Magicka of the Third Era - MWSE-lua Magic Overhaul by Vengyre
MWSE-lua magic overhaul. Features reworked spell chances, reworked spell costs, unique effect formulas, advanced multi-effect spell formula, effect synergies, spell rebalance, unique spells, reworked experience gain, Magicka Expanded integration. Many features are customizable.

Hot Lava by abot
Lava and similar scripted damage sources should use fire damage instead. More realistic and also a fire atronach will no longer die walking in lava.

Costly Capering by CodeRing
No more spam jumping! When you run out of fatigue, continuing to jump will cause you to fall over.

Tiered Spell Casting by Sphagne
Categorizes spells in tiers from cantrips to grand master level, depending on their magicka cost. Higher level spells would give more experience, and even failing a spell cvould give you a bit of experience. Depending on your mastery and spell's tier, spells might cost less, but also might be penalized if you're not ready for them.

June 6th - July 8th

Skill Names for Skill Books by rooksby
Adds skill names to all skill books in the game, but shortens some book titles to fit the 31 character limit. Choose between abbreviated skill names, and complete skill names.

Pacifist Way - Good Doctor - MWSE by Spammer
Curing Diseased or Blighted creatures will make them stop attacking you.

MWSE NPC RANDOM FACE GENERATOR by Stripes
Randomizes heads and hairs on generic NPCs

Aleist3r's name generator adapted to give names to generic NPCs

Player Made Magic Rename by abot
CTRL + Click to rename a player made spell or enchanted item from player magic menu. CTRL + Equip on paperdoll to rename a player made constant enchanted item from player inventory menu

Disobedient Summons - MWSE by Spammer
Summonned Creatures will be more enclined to take sides with whoever has the highest conjuration skill. Which means that you'll have a chance to steal hostile NPCs summons if your conjuration is high enough, but also that your own summons might turn against you if you send them against the wrong opponent.

This mod is all about giving NPCs proper headwear in certain weather conditions.

Realistic Archery by Merlord
Arrows and thrown weapons always do damage when they hit a target, but projectiles are less accurate at lower marksman levels, and damage is reduced at close range.

Obedient Summons - MWSE by Spammer
Allows you to give basic orders to your summoned creatures. Adds a new spell, called "Soul Release", allowing you to summon a soul trapped in a soulgem. You can now have Vivec or Almalexia as obedient summons! Requires Magicka Expanded.

Smart Rings by abot
Rings are given enchanting tiers (1 = No Enchantment, 2 = On Use Enchantment, 3 = Constant Enchantment). When you have the maximum number of rings already equipped and you equip another ring, a lower tier ring will be unequipped if available to avoid the risk of unequipping a higher tier ring

Alchemy - Multiple Potions at Once - MWSE by Spammer
Allows you to brew multiple potions at once (OpenMW style). No more need to torture your poor left mouse button to get 20 restore fatigue potions.

MWSE Perk Framework by KirbonatedBeverage
A library/code module that adds support for a perk system, a la the fallout games

I'll Level Up Later - MWSE by Spammer21
Ready for level up, but don't want to just yet? Really needing to rest? This mod adds a "Cancel" button to close the Level up menu without leveling up.

Accurate Thrown Weapon Tooltips by Necrolesian
Doubles the displayed damage in thrown weapon tooltips, so it will accurately reflect how the game determines their damage.

Accurate Tooltip Stats by Necrolesian
Implements more accurate, context-dependent tooltip displays for weapon damage and armor ratings, using MWSE-lua.

Animal Extinction by Spammer21
Ever dreamt of killing every cliffracer in the game? Now you can.

Realistic jump height. Part of 4NM.

Attribute Effect Tweaks by Necrolesian
Tweaks how Restore/Damage Attribute works on the player. Required by certain mods. No meaningful gameplay effect on its own.

Auto Attack by Merlord
This mod adds an auto-attack toggle hotkey. MCM for configuring hotkey, attack speed and message display.

Auto Harvest by KrimsonKhaos
Auto Harvest will automatically collect ingredients from organic containers, and loose ingredients within range of the player. Compatible with Graphic Herbalism and Tamriel Rebuilt.

Automatic Weapon Readied by Spammer21
No need to manually ready your weapon anymore!

Barter Gold Adjuster by Necrolesian
Allows customizing merchants' barter gold using MWSE-lua.

BDC-Seyda Neen by EnclaveKiller
Better Dialogue-Choices is a quest overhaul project focused on implementing rpg elements in dialogue while extending quests by giving the player multiple ways to complete them. This mod overhauls all Seyda Neen side quests.

Big Head Mode by Safebox
Gives NPCs and creatures with a "Bip01 Head" node larger heads (and hands).

Bleeding Injuries by Spammer21
Wear armor. Seriously. Battles are dangerous. Adds blood decals if you get wounded in combat.

Boethiah's Bloodhound by Revacholiere
A small quest to gain an artifact of Boethiah that's as dangerous to the user as the target.

Cast on Hit Bows Lua by KrimsonKhaos
Makes any arrow shot from any bow hit with the bows cast on use or cast on strike enchantment.

CCCP Magicka Regen by Necrolesian
Implements the magicka regen functionality of Class-Conscious Character Progression (CCCP), without any of that mod's other features.

Combat Enhanced - MWSE Edition by Spammer21
MWSE Lua version of Combat Enhanced.

Compare Tooltips by rfuzzo
This mod adds compare tooltips for looked-at or equipped items against the equipped item of the same category. The mod has multiple MCM options to configure the comparison style.

Creatures Silt Striders by Spammer21
Changes the silt striders in cities by actual creatures, with health points. Attacking these creatures is a crime, and the Caravaneer associated to it will stop offering you services if you do so.

Critical Lockpicking and Trap Disarming by Spammer21
Adds critical failure and critical success to the Lockpicking/Trap Disarming mechanism.

Deja Vu by Safebox
Adds a timeloop mechanic that carries over stats and spells, but resets items and journal entries. Repeats every 24 hours or on player death.

Disturbing Dreams by VitruvianGuar
MWSE lua mod changing the mechanics of Sixth House attacking the player during sleep.

DRIP - Dynamic Randomised Item Properties by Merlord
Drip adds Diablo 2 style loot to Morrowind. Unique weapons, armor, clothing and accesories are dynamically generated, with over a hundred unique modifiers and more than a million possible combinations. Chance to apply modifiers configurable in the MCM.

Dwemer Cycle by Safebox
The Dwemer Cycle is an eight month labour of love to put the Master Cycle into Morrowind.

Elemental Projectile Hits by Spammer21
Adds a little VFX when your elemental enchanted arrow/bolt/throwing weapon hits something.

Enchant Drain by Spammer21
Adds a buyable spell called "Enchant Drain", that allows you to use your enchanted staves and amulets as a supplementary mana pool for the duration of the spell.

Enchantment Services Redone by Virnetch
Adds NPC services for recharging enchanted items, deciphering magic scrolls and the option to transcribe magic scrolls, both by the player, and through a service. Adds empty scrolls from OAAB to enchanters and booksellers, and disables the passive recharging of enchanted items. Highly customizable through the Mod Config Menu.

Enslaved by Spammer21
Playing as an Argonian or a Khajiit? Life is tough for you in Vvardenfell. Racism everywhere. And now, even slave traders abducting you during your sleep!

External Commands by NullCascade
Facilitates the reading of json packages from a monitored folder or through a TCP connection to allow the execution of scripts. This allows streamers to have interactive chat commands that modify the game.

Factional Bounties by wurst24
Not every faction you wrong should be happy just because you paid your dues to the Imperials. If your crimes against a faction are witnessed by a member of that faction, and they're not fans of the Imperial Legion, they might wanna come collect retribution for themselves as well. Simple interop for mod-added factions included. (MWSE Lua)

Adds the "Heaven and Hell" difficulty from Devil May Cry, which makes any damage a killing blow.

Immersive Bosmer Corpse Disposal by rfuzzo
This mod changes the "dispose corpse" button to "eat corpse" if you are playing as a Bosmer and adds some buffs for eating your felled enemies. Includes some logic for use as an Ashfall-addon.

Immersive Compass by Safebox
Adds a physical compass that can be bought (or stolen) from various shops, or found in levelled lists.

Indoor - Outdoor Camera Switching by Safebox
A mod that switches the camera to first person when indoors and third person when outdoors.

Item Browser by Merlord
Item Browser allows you to search, browse and preview any item in the game, and add them to your inventory. Powered by the Crafting Framework.

Leftover Attribute Modifiers Persist by KrimsonKhaos
Saves any unused skill ups for the next time you level up. No ESP needed.

Less Annoying Wigs by Spammer21
Wigs no longer take any clothing or armor slots.

Less Lame Leveled Spawns by NullCascade
If you've ever loaded a save game in a dungeon that you've cleared corpses in, you may have noticed them respawn. This fixes this issue, first by preventing the spawn during load, as well as adding a cooldown to leveled creature spawners.

Level Up Indicator by Spammer21
Adds a level up indicator when you're ready to level up.

Loading Splash Screens by rfuzzo
This mod uses MWSE to display splash screens during cell loading instead of freezing the frame as vanilla does.

Menus Hider on Item Select by Spammer21
In OpenMW, when you select an item in your inventory, the Magic, Stats and Map menus automatically hide when your mouse hovers them to not obstruct your view when placing said item into the game world. This MWSE mod allows that functionality to be used with the Vanilla exe.

As the title implies, this mod makes the Dark Brotherhood assassins relentless in their pursuit to murder you.

Smarter Strike Sounds by NullCascade
This mod improves the logic for selecting an enchantment failure sound. It enables selecting a random effect fail sound, and preventing the same enchantment from playing a sound twice (or more) in a row. As a result, enchantment strike sounds become a lot less spammy, and can provide some variety.

Spells Reforged - purple Shield by Kurpulio
Replaces Shield spell visual effect.

Summon Creature Followers by KrimsonKhaos
Vanilla and TR versions. Tired of the same 17 summon creatures in the game? This adds 90 creature followers that are able to be summoned with a custom menu. Multiple options in a MCM menu

The Iron Fist - A Hand-to-hand Overhaul by Spammer21
Wearing Gauntlets during a hand-to-hand fight will cause health damage to your opponents.

The Maniac's Mansion by Nerevec
This is a Player Home high up in the sky above the Dunmer Stronghold Falensarano. It also contains some easter eggs to Retro Gaming on DOS.

Training Menu and Training Manual by KrimsonKhaos
Two versions: Training Menu and Training Manual, both open a menu with configurable settings.

Training Rebalance by Spammer21
Training does not guaranty a skill improvement anymore. When you use the training service, there is a chance (based on your luck, fatigue and the trainer skill) for you to fail the training and to not gain anything at all. Alternatively, there is also a slight chance for you to gain double the amount of experience.

Vampiric Bloodline Visages by Stripes
MWSE required. There are 3 vampire bloodlines in the vanilla game and they all look the same, this mod attempts to give each bloodline a visual distinction

Vanish From Sight by impv
As long as the player is invisible, all hostiles located in the current cell stop combat. Includes configurable fight values for hostiles in MCM. A must-have for any illusionist.

Weight of the World by Necrolesian
Allows customizing how max encumbrance is calculated in various ways, plus a more accurate encumbrance display.

Smarter Harder Barter by quinnoccent
Creates a vanilla+ yet more balanced trading experience, mirroring the base game for mundane trades while reigning in the economy-breaking potential of very expensive items.

Real Fire Damage - MWSE Edition by Spammer21
This mod does exactly the same as AmazingChopin's Real Fire Damage, but using MWSE lua instead of an esp plugin. This makes the mod work for every fire source in the game, even ones added by other mods, like Tamriel Rebuilt for example.

Skill Capper - MWSE by ddmlink
Caps your base skills as an extra challenge. By default, they are capped at 1 but you can change the limit in the MCM.

Acid Rain by Spammer21
The rain in Vvardenfell is now acidic. Find shelter as soon as possible!

Breakable Unlimited Thieves Tools --- B.U.T.T by KrimsonKhaos
Uses MWSE Lua to make all picks and probes Unlimited uses, but still Breakable with a configurable chance. Either option can be toggled on or off as you choose.

Moonmoth Cottage - Cloud Storage Warehouse Compatible by TheWanderer
A player home near Moonmoth Fort. No clutter and no mannequins. That has been left for you to add. When the three storey extention was added the previous owners decided to keep the original name.

Civilised Vvardenfell by Spammer21
It is now illegal to draw weapons or to use spells in towns. You can still carry them (Second Amendment and all), but don't you dare use them in front of witnesses!

Harder Merchants is a simple, but effective mod, that forces merchant's mercantile skill to grow as the player increases in level; removing the static nature of their stat, and thus making it much more of a challenge when bartering with them. Used in conjunction with Harder Barter player's can expect to have a more difficult time trying to buy/sell their ill-gotten goods; severely decreasing the chances of "get rich, quick" play throughs. Together, they can serve as a modern replacement for older mods, such as HotFusion's Economy Adjuster, which did something similar with NPC's mercantile skill, but now with far less lines of code.

This mod makes it so that performing a levitation spell is illegal, as it is supposed to be according to The Levitation Act. Performing a levitation spell or using a levitation enchantment and being caught while doing so will give you a bounty of 500 gold per levitation effect, per cast! However, like with other crimes, it is possible to cast a levitation spell and not get caught. Guards will respond similarly to as if you stole an item or attacked someone. This functionality does not apply to NPCs and creatures.

In the vanilla game invisibility has a relatively major bug/exploit. While you are invisible and not directly in the line of sight of an NPC, the sneak chance will always be 100%, even if your sneak, agility and luck are as low as 0, which pretty much allows you to steal absolutely everything. This has to do with the fact that the AI doesn't update quickly enough after exiting invisibility. This mod fixes this by preemptively removing the invisibility effect and delaying the activate function by a single frame.

Adds four magical portable containers hidden across Vvardenfell that can hold far more than their size suggests and never increase in weight. They're quite heavy but allow you to carry more overall - if you can find them and get through the dungeons. Rumours in towns will give you vague hints.

This also includes a secret testing feature to load into a specified save game even faster- uncomment two of the lines at the top of main.lua, and choose a filename and key code.     Cast on Strike Bows by efrost
    Cast-on-strike enchantments on bows and crossbows work. Arrows and bolts are enchanted on the fly, and they're replaced with their unenchanted versions when you swap them out--even with hotkeys. Enchanted ammo works normally. Make sure MCP's "Fix enchant options on ranged" is disabled.
