Hack-A-Lamp

This project can modify RGB LED color over bluetooth.

Uses protocoder (by Victor Diaz) and a BQ ZUM BT-328.

Protocoder handles the interface, bluetooth (or BT) communication and color chosser.

Also uses Mit App Inventor, so you can choose whatever app you prefer. App made with app inventor has some issues below (check out below)

BQ ZUM BT-328 handles BT communication and drives RGB LEDs (It got a BT module integrated on the board and many other great things).

Also it uses Neopixel library by Adafruit to control neopixel leds. You can found adafruit's NeoPixel library in Arduino folder, but it could not be updated, so be sure to download Adafruit library from it source.

This project started as an idea to hack an ikea lamp and transform it to use with RGB LEDs.

Please check out updates below.

Usage

User Interface

Download the project and move .proto file to your smartphone (recommended) or tablet.

You can also open protocoder file on your computer and copy it into an empty project on Protocoder IDE.

If your Arduino or Arduino cloned board doesn't have a bluetooth module, you should connect a BT module and handle to recieve data over BT-Serial.

Upload hack-a-lamp_arduino.ino file to your Arduino board.

Install protocoder apk on your device and then, with a file explorer, open projects_Hack-a-lamp.proto file with protocoder. Then run it on your device.

You must first pair your BT board or module to your device with bluetooth settings.

On protocoder interface click on Connect to Bluetooth and choose your board, wait until both BTs are connected and move the sliders, then click on Send to change the color.

Auto send feature: Use this is you want Protocoder send data color as you modify it. Using this feature provides a almost real time experience.

On/Off switch: When it's turned on, the color is set to white. When it's turned off, the color is set to black.

App Inventor

I've made an app with Mit App Inventor, that have the same functionality as protocoder app, but it have some issues that You can install the apk provided to use this project on your smartphone. Also you can download .aia project inside App Inventor folder and import into your App Inventors project to hack, modify, learn or whatever you want to do with it.

###Updates 09-April-2015

  1. Move common slider code to modifySlider function.
  2. Included Adafruit_NeoPixel library to Arduino Folder.
  3. Renamed Arduino Folder.
  4. Added disclaimer.

6-April-2015

  1. Added support for neopixel and compatibles.

5-April-2015:

  1. Added random color button, on/off switch and autoSend.
  2. Added high speed mode.
  3. Fixed autosend bug.

The app made with Mit App Inventor takes a long time to send info over bluetooth.

The app made with Mit App Inventor, sometimes, doesn't send info over bluetooth.

Bad align of random color button.
