Pref patch

It seems that NEW prefs don't appear for old users that already have prefs. But this seems like a problem for the "Prefs" branch.

There is probably not time to get the pref objects working, so we'll need to patch this for the semester, so that users can have custom preambles working good!

OR, we can just make sure that brand new users have this preference populated, so that it does appear on the preferences. IN FACT, it's possible that this is already the case! TEST this by logging into a brand new account.
