Pathfinder introduction tutorial

In this section we will walk you through a simple usage of pathfinder on our provided sample dataset. The instructions follow the step-by-step process of running a dataset through Pathfinder on Mac computers. The process is the same provided you launch Pathfinder using the CMD window on a Windows machine.

Before starting, download our sample dataset here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1MhBu66epwaBDl6QvdEB1WJ5z3oIWMzGH

  1. Launch pathfinder by calling pathfinder in terminal.

Terminal can be found in the Utilities folder on Mac, and is the CMD window in Windows XP, 7, 8 and 10. pathfinder_launch

  1. Click on -> File -> Open Directory... and select the sample dataset and click Choose to confirm pathfinder_open_directory
  2. Because our sample dataset was outputted from WaterMaze, select WaterMaze from the main window. pathfinder_watermaze_selection
  3. Our sample dataset has a singular platform position, and therefore, can be left with all parameters automatically calculated. 5 Clicking on Settings will cause a settings parameters pane to appear. pathfinder_settings_pane
  4. Close the custom parameters pane.
  5. Optionally, you can set the Platform position to 35,70 (the centre of the platform) and the Platform diameter to 9 pathfinder_goal_pos_change8. We recommend experimenting with different parameters in order to understand how they affect classification.
  6. It's time to run our analysis. Click Calculate. The software will now run.
  7. Your CSV software will open shortly with the results! pathfinder_calculate

Congratulations, you've learned how to use Pathfinder
