On validate/lint errors the plugin crashes

if you run Lint, Validate, etc commands and there are any validation/lint errors the plugin crashes with "range" being undefined

I see the issue I reported is a duplicate of this, I have a machine where I can reproduce and also a proposed "workaround" in #25
