How does GoofCord enhance user privacy?

  1. Blocking Tracking: GoofCord prevents network requests to all unwanted tracking URLs, including Youtube and Spotify embed tracking.
  2. Containerizing Discord: GoofCord isolates Discord, so it doesn't do unwanted or unexpected actions with your computer.
  3. Message Encryption: GoofCord can securely encrypt all your messages with end-to-end encryption, so no one except you and your recipient could see the messages.

There are also smaller things, like masking your user agent and changing YouTube embeds to Invidious embeds by default.

Does GoofCord improve my security?

  • "Security" is a broad topic, but generally, no. Due to how GoofCord is made, it's very hard to improve the security aspect. As of writing this, GoofCord doesn't do anything specific to improve your security.

How safe is message encryption?

What steps can I take personally to improve privacy and anonymity?

  1. Refrain from installing official Discord client on your mobile device. Opt for a well-maintained custom mobile client that blocks trackers. You can find custom mobile clients in this list.
  2. Limit the data you provide to Discord. Avoid phone verification, email verification (use an email alias), disclosing credit card details, etc.
  3. Don't use Discord for personal, private messages without encryption. Discord can see everything you write.
  4. Don't connect your accounts to Discord through "Connections" or specify them in "About me".
  5. Disable "Use data to improve Discord" and "Use data to customize my Discord experience" under the "Privacy & Safety" tab in the Discord settings.
