About The Pull Request

Merges Bitrunner job with Prisoners, bumps prisoner count to 5, updates permabrig with better kitchens and botanies.

Why It's Good For The Game

Bitrunners are glorified cargo techs that do their actual job for 2 minutes with a shitload of downtime where they got nothing to do. This merges them with prisoners to give them more stuff to do (also gives prisoners something to do and makes them useful to the station by bitrunning).

Changelog

🆑
add: Reworked entire delta perma
add: Bitrunner dens in perma
add: Bitrunning is prisoners job now
add: Improved permabrig to actually fit 5 people (updated kitchen, botany and stuff)
del: Removed bitrunners
del: Removed increased power consumption from upgrading parts
config: bumped prisoner count to 5

I'm not a fan of this. Bitrunners tend to need a lot of medical care to the brain (read - warden is not going to do that shit in most game), it usually needs upgrades (which the warden, once again, is not going to go get), etc. Just feels like a reverse QOL update for warden imo, and a general downgrade for bitrunner qol.

Forgot to mention - if brig phys is merged, there's no guarantee you'll get a brig phys to do the brain surgery, or even just a warden to bring you to medical.

We will get security assistants that have perma access too, in fact sec officers will have it too I think.

It's their job to tend to people in the brig, it's not like there's a guarantee that you will get brain surgery in medical as a bitrunner too since it might be blown up or busy in some other way.

  1. Does this mean that prisoners now have a "job" now? Will they be expected to do bitrunning? If not, then prisoners who don't want to do bitrunning might hog the slots of those who do want bitrunning.
  2. How will science get reformatted tech disks from prison? Needing warden as an extra middleman for everything seems like a hassle, and that's assuming prisoners are willing to spend the resources on tech disks.

Nah prisoners are still prisoners, this is 5 job slots so it's gonna be fine. I've never seen bitrunners get the disks in the first place and it might need changes at some point, but yea you gotta ask sec to deliver them, it's not just warden that has perma access now, it's gonna be everyone in security.

Fun fact, tech disks might get an expansion in the form of the nanite protocols.

So I'd like to see this not get accepted, honestly, and also it feels wrong to have an entire fully fledged cargo department slapped into the prison. I wouldn't mind a map-specific bitrunning area for prisoners, though. That's cool. This is not.

Also this completely gimps any and all future development for bitrunning as no-one will want to work on a feature that has zero potential for interactions outside of one small corner that only one group will ever go to.

Also on that note, prisoners have 4x the downtime and risk because they can't upgrade the bitrunning equipment as they cannot leave the prison area under normal circumstances and if they do they've got better things to worry about than bitrunning upgrades.

Reconsidered post-discussion, previous comment still available via edits tab.

Still majorly disagree with moving it to security and think it clogs the roundflow massively, and adds un-needed strain on an already massively busy and overworked dpt.

Just because you've never seen them get disks doesn't mean they don't. I tend to quite a bit.

It's more like it happens too rarely to matter in balancing terms, especially considering the kind of stuff that is locked behind there. (nanite protocols my beloved, if they're present)
