Description
"If you can't explain it to a six year old, you don't understand it yourself" ~ Albert Einstein
Croydon library code club children will help us re-imagine libraries and their role in the 21st century.
Learn about citizen tech.
Learn how to make your own virtual reality viewer.
Learn how to make and share your own virtual reality content.
Share ideas about libraries and their role in our future.
Agenda
Code code children, organisers and librarians will run rolling practical workshops, discussions and question & answer sessions.
We will “show and tell” how to make and decorate Google Cardboard VR viewers and help participants make and decorate Google cardboard VR viewers.
We will “show and tell” how make and share 360/VR media and help participants make and share 360/VR media.
We will be holding Q&A and conversations about citizen tech and the role of libraries in the future and recording some of these as part of the workshop.
Participants
Rather than a “classically scripted” presentation or session we will explore a Dadaist style Cut Up improvised “Jazz” technique to “unpresent” an interactive non-linear session using conversations and objects to adapt and scale in real-time and for participants to explore personally.
Outcome
Virtual reality fits in extremely well with ideas about libraries of the future and the DIY element makes it very accessible for the general public
Participants will take away information, knowledge and ability to participate in the virtual reality tech movement using using simple, friendly, accessible and cost effective "consumer" stye technologies.
We will provide on-going forums to support, share and develop ideas and skills of the session.
Participants ideas shared in conversations in the session will help shape future activities and workshops with libraries and the concept of “citizen tech”.
