To reproduce:
1. Load the VDC file /glade/p/cisl/vast/vapor/data/VDC/vapor-3.5.0/CAM/AdamPhillips/F2000C5_new120_025/F2000C5_new120_025-3.5.0.nc

  1. Load the VDC file /glade/p/cisl/vast/vapor/data/VDC/vapor-3.6.0/CAM/AdamPhillips/F2000C5_new120_025/F2000C5_new120_025-3.6.0.vdc
  2. Enable a slice renderer with the "ABSORB" variable
  3. Change the fidelity from low to medium. The rendering will fail with:

Failed to get requested variable: spatial extents out of range

The flow renderer demonstrates similar behavior
