What is GetIt?

GetIt is the NYU Libraries name for the app that leverages the Umlaut engine gem (among other things).
GetIt doesn't equal Umlaut but they are very closely related.

Please note, that GetIt is not GetItNow. GetItNow is some other tool that I know nothing about :)

Why GetIt?

GetIt provides a way to provide a single, aggregated view of what a patron's options are for getting the thing that they've discovered. GetIt allows SFX do what it does best, manage licensed online resources, and lets Primo and Aleph do what they do best, manage inventory (including circulation) for ILS-y type things and provide discovery. We also can add other useful services to enhance the patron's delivery experience. The main caveat about this is that OpenURL is a tricky beast so some resources that are in SFX don't get hits and others are false hits, but our experience has been that these are the edge cases and the vast majority of resources successfully resolve.
