Whitelist
The whitelist feature allows you to override all chat filters and show a message no matter what. This allows you to filter emotes by everyone except a few friends you may want to see emotes from.
The whitelist only shows messages that include the whitelisted player's name - this setting will whitelist any messages sent by a player with a matching name.
This setting largely exists to allow you to see when other people emote at one of your whitelisted players.
Add players by First Last and optionally Server names. You must enter the name how you see it in chat so users who use initialed name settings should enter the name as they see it. (eg. First name Example
, Last name N.
or First name E.
and Last name Name
). You then select which channels the whitelist should apply to. The most common settings here will be Emotes, Talking, and Login/Logout. The "Talking" channel includes all channels a player can send a message to: /say, /yell, /shout, /tell, /fc, any /linkshell, /party, and /novice.
Advanced Usage
The whitelist only checks to see if the message includes the name somewhere or was sent by the name. This means it is possible to whitelist arbitrary messages by treating the "First Name" field as a generic substring matching field - similar to the substring filters in No Soliciting - except you are whitelisting instead of blacklisting messages. Want to hide all emotes by other players except /pat
emotes? Add gently pats
as a First Name and apply it to the Emotes channel.
This advanced usage is entirely unsupported and won't be fixed. I will not help troubleshoot any issues caused by using the whitelist in this manner and you are responsible for creating your own substring matches for the message(s) you wish to whitelist.
