It looks like there isn't a way to make a pool without prior knowledge of the disk ids? Without a way to get disk ids, there isn't a reliable way to build a pool. I can help with the rules to make pools:
number of drives by pool or raid type.
media type
capacity
hdd rpm
tray loss protection.

I guess different drive states should be considered as well, for example hot spares. The list of disk ids does not help if I don't know whethe the disks are actually usable.
