DEV: Test code needs to be more generic

The test code for this provider is very specific to the test environment of the developer team. As an external contributor I also want to provide more tests for the code I am submitting. Since I cannot use the test code to do tests in my environment, I am reluctant to change the tests because I cannot test the tests.

Can we change the test code in a way that the test environment becomes configurable. This would give external contributors the opportunity to provide test code for their changes also.
