Looked into this and it seems that this cannot be solved easily in time before NixCon. |
Just answered Ron directly over Matrix, but I can comment here, FWIW. First solution : NixOS Foundation registers itselfSo, yes, NixOS Foundation needs to register to French tax authorities, but to be fair, it has not to be registered before collecting money or doing stuff, it can just collect the VAT and put it in some safe place, wait for French tax authority heads-up and send it their way. From my understanding, this is possible without any penalty as long as good faith is involved. Second solution : NixOS Foundation mandates a French non-profit ("loi 1901") to do NixCon
It requires some paperwork to have a proper contract though, but I heard this was what some other conferences have done. Third solution : NixOS Foundation mandates a French company to do NixConVAT must be paid, but everything is simplified. If you need more info or a quick call, I can definitely help on this as I am the French rep for the NixCon organization team. |
The second or third solution are the preferred ones. |
This is great and agreed with Armijn. |
Logging another solution - |
For this year, we have done this via a French org. Maybe for next year, we should figure out how the NixOS Foundation can do this itself. |
Two issues:
So we probably need to register with the French tax authorities and pay VAT for 2022.
@armijnhemel is going to ask his tax advisor about this.
