Error: An unexpected error occurred

When I plus in the x40 device，every first time I open the deivce it always said "Error: An unexpected error occurred ",I enter the open command again, it is OK。What's the problem??

then I plug it again

Can you please share the dmesg logs? Are you in virtual machine per chance? If so, please ensure to enable XHCI passthrough as opposed to emulation.
