Which vocabulary is suggested to use for MEASUREMENT.measurement_concept_id, LONIC or SNOMED

CDM or THEMIS convention?

THEMIS

Table or Field level?

Field

Is this a general convention?

No

Summary of issues

  1. If one measurement has standard concepts in different vocabulary e.g. LOINC and SNOMED, which vocabulary is suggested to use for MEASUREMENT.measurement_concept_id?
For example, 'body height' has 2 standard concepts, one is 3036277 (LOINC), the other is 607590 (SNOMED)

Summary of answer

  1. Christian said lab tests are generally standardized to LOINC in one OHDSI Forum post. Does it mean we need to use LOINC vocabulary standard concept as first priority? If so, for the above example for 'body height', we should choose 3036277 (LOINC)?

@clairblacketer, @MelaniePhilofsky, it's not a ratified convention. It's an issue raised by me. I have this confusion. I am not sure if you have idea on this issue or it needs to be moved to 'Cancelled/Needs more work'?

Other comments/notes

I am also a people to implement vocabulary mapping for source codes in my organization. I often find there are different vocabularies standard concepts can be found for one measurement item. Sometimes, I am confused which vocabulary is better to use since they are all standard and seems OK (both domain in 'Measurement') to use. I don't have medical background. I am an ETL developer.
I cannot find a convention in CDM website on this. It's better if we can see related convention in CDM website/documentation.

@jiawei-qian This is a good question! I'm going to move this to needs more work for continued discussion. It looks like there was activity on a thread about a conical set of concepts for vital signs on the forums fairly recently: https://forums.ohdsi.org/t/2022-us-symposium-67-conical-set-of-concept-ids-for-vital-signs/17502
