I drilled down in this PR as to why we see so many orphan authors. It turns out that in the process of creating edges and inference the total number of authors goes down because some of them didn't write a paper while at one of the 5 institutions. I think it cleans up the graph a bit, we could try to display a couple of more institutions. Wdyt @lewlefton ?

Cleaning up the graph makes sense. It's also good practice to record data manipulation, governing assumptions, and related methodology somewhere. Maybe some sort of explainer box or a simple click through from a "Info on our methodology" link. Not sure how that fits into the UI, but something to consider. May not be possible for this hackathon, but just putting it out there as a future data transparency move.
