When I plug my USB audio device (M-Audio Audiophile USB) to my Raspberry Pi it does not get initialized by the kernel. From what I get (full?) ALSA support seems to be missing on the RPi build. There is no aplay and the usb-audio modules do not get loaded according to dmesg.

The audio device works perfectly fine on other Linux kernels. Is there any specific reason that the support is missing on RPi?

Tried with different Openelec RPi builds up to 3.0 RC2.

the RPi builds (and XBMC for RPi) dont support ALSA, so USB sound devices will not be supported too

Hi Stephan,

Thanks for the clarification, is the a technical reason for that? I didn't try it myself yet but I do read that ALSA seems to work on Raspbian.

Greetings from Biel ;)

ok figured out some more details in the XBMC forum: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=140809

Looks like this is related to OpenMAX which it seems to use on RPi and ALSA/USB Audio is not an option there by design.
