Request for "API for custom message display on LCD"

Would it be possible to include the ability for custom text to be send to the LCD display via a call to http API or MQTT message?
The message would have a "timeout" (parameter?) before returning to the normal cycle/status.

This probably has multiple use cases, but in my case I'd like to be able to send a message from home assistant to the OpenEVSE display to indicate the current "charging strategy" being used in home assistant.

[ I have built additional functionality inside home assistant to control my OpenEVSE modes to optimise solar and off-peak rates etc. My intention would then have a zigbee button next to the EVSE to toggle the mode. (e.g. I have modes "fast charge", "charge except during peak period", "charge off-peak only", "charge solar excess", "charge with solar rate limited") ]
