Guide for Virtual Public Meetings

What problem are you trying to solve?

The state just suspended a public meeting law to allow for virtual/remote participation for public meetings

In less than 140 characters explain your idea?

Create a guide for policymakers/people who are holding public meetings, with options for tools, protocol, and community engagement features. Have the public weigh in on the guide.

Who will benefit from your project? Can you tell their story?

It's an opportunity for public servants to learn more about how to conduct better digital civic engagement. Also for the public to assess and give input on options.

What area of Civic Engagement would you put this under? [1 or more]

  • Civic Engagement, broad

What other resources/tools are currently serving the same need?

Possibly some blog posts. This would specifically be for Maine public servants, since we have different public meeting laws.

Please provide a source for your information that Maine suspended the open meetings requirement.

Agree with Nancy that references will be important to this project.

@elburnett Should I take this out of project-ideas and start a new repo?

"Municipalities will also be allowed to hold remote public meetings until 30 days after the emergency ends provided they follow state public notification laws," This was from Mills emergency legislation: https://bangordailynews.com/2020/03/17/politics/maine-lawmakers-set-to-pass-coronavirus-response-bill-allowing-town-meeting-delays/
