OS: Windows 7
Version: 0.2.1
Commit/Build: 6992be8

Many sound effects are not working, such as the sound of doors opening and closing, the hissing of brakes on roller coasters, the sound of roller coaster trains moving around a track at low speed and the sound of water on rapids and dinghy rides.

OK, could you tell which sound effects are working?

Working sounds include all interface sounds, crowd noises, music, chain lifts, roller coaster trains going at faster speeds, splashing on water rides, trains, go-karts, toilets and cash registers.

Most sounds are working, its just a few very specific sounds are suddenly completely silent. Most noticeable is if you go into an empty quiet park and build a roller coaster like this:

...and hit test, usually you would hear several sounds such as the sound of brakes as the trains leave the block section, and a low rumble as the train moves around the first corner of track. However it is now completely silent until the train reaches the first chain lift.

Since OpenRCT2 is in stereo (with some sounds coming from one speaker only), could you double check it isn't an issue with your speaker/sound device set up?

Stereo is working fine as far as I can tell. For instance while scrolling around a park the working noises pan from left to right accordingly. Plus these sound problems only started since downloading the 6992be8 build and I have not altered my speaker setup since then.
UPDATE:
Sound seems to be working correctly again. I tried messing around with the Sound Options in OpenRCT2 earlier to no avail, but after trying again the problem seems to have fixed itself. Slightly weird since I haven't actually changed any options, just altered them one way then set them back to how they were before. Still not sure what caused it though.
UPDATE 2:
And now the problem is back again, no changes to my audio settings of any kind.

I haven't heard the "build coaster track" noise since I first played OpenRCT2.

Hello. Just dropping in to mention I've experienced the same bug as this on build 8ac731e.
For me the missing sound effects were water ride splashes, rollercoaster trains moving at low speed, and brake section noises. After some time spent messing about with sound settings and quitting/reloading saves I somehow ended up with all the sound effects working except for brake noises.

Edit: the problem came back randomly while playing. Trying out dev build 3a1c141 and the issue is still present.

Edit 2: Starting to get somewhere with figuring out steps to reproduce this. It seems like it has to do with the "Master Volume" slider. As the slider approaches close to zero, some of the game's sound effects cut out completely while others continue to reduce in volume in the expected manner. I had the Master Volume slider set very low while playing which seems to have resulted in the inconsistency.

So for me there is a workaround: set the "Master Volume" slider to maximum and adjust the game sound using Window's built in Volume Mixer instead.

The "build track" noise still isn't there as of 62f163a. When I build a piece of track, I only hear the UI click noise.

Should perhaps be treated as a duplicate of #7490
