Because of this exception the service is not activated and we get an exception. If we call a second time the service, then the activation is done correctly and we can use the service.

We are still using the OpenRiaServices 4.6.0.

Any idea what we could do?

1. That sounds like you should contact Microsoft about. I don't see openriaservices in the callbacks so it is probably something with asp.net (system.web) or wcf.
2. You really should upgrade to openriaservices 5.*, just make sure to read upgrade instructions/changelog for 5.0. It might solve the issue by starting up faster

I have tried now with the newest version 5.4.0.

I get again on the first call the following exception:
AuthenticationService.svc' cannot be activated due to an exception during compilation. The exception message is: Could not find a part of the path ....

It seems that the first call is always giving a problem.
My workaround at the moment is just to call at the start of the application for all the DomainService classes we have a dummy call and ignore the exception.

Dear Svensson I have tried the SimpleWPF example and I have the same behaviour. The first time a DomainService call is executed, I get an error that the service could not be activated, because a part of the path could not be found. I tried it myself and get the same problem so it is definitely something new which have broken the WCF hosting recently.

The dotnet website says:

.NET Framework & Visual Studio
Use the integrated Report a Problem feature in Visual Studio or visit the Developer Community.

So unless you know of a better way it would be great if you could report the problem at https://developercommunity.visualstudio.com/dotnet?ftype=problem&q=KB5031323 and post a link here to so that any other user which stumbles on it can vote for it to be resolved. (I have also seen some issues raised at https://github.com/microsoft/dotnet, but I don't think that is the official recommended approach)

I have found that if you create a folder at the path in the error, it fills with files and works correctly.

Perhaps a debug flag left on when the KB went out?

Great to see that there are workarounds when waiting for a solution.

Just a heads up to everbody affected ( @neplan ) that it is time to start planning for the switch to .NET and AspNetCore .
The AspNetCore hosting has been used in production environments for a year and is very stable, and a lot faster.

We are mostly waiting for .NET 8 and to make some additional documentation for helping make the switch (such as authentication #445) before bumping the version to 1.0
