After the passing of our beloved JT (#14954) I thought that we could honor him, keep his memory alive, and foremost, inspire people to do good work for the community, by having an award named after him.

  • This would be the "JT Orchard Core Community Award" or something similar.
  • Every year, the community votes on who has done the most for Orchard Core. This can entail activities in the form of e.g. code contributions (including documentation), help under issues and discussion, evangelization outreach, community management, or anything else. However, it needs to be public and tangible.
  • The vote itself is secret but you can nominate people in public.
  • We announce the winner at Harvest.
  • We could talk to JT's widow about how best to honor him, and whether they support the idea, to begin with.
  • The award is foremost about recognition. We can provide some perks too:
    • Mention of each year's winner in the docs under the community section, perhaps also on the website.
    • Tweet about it under the Orchard account.
    • From Lombiq we can provide free custom domain usage on DotNest and publicizing the winner in Lombiq's media.
    • Anything else?
  • The whole thing is elaborated under the community section of the docs.

What do you think? I can organize this.
