Sound Overlay

Sound Overlays are additional acoustics added by Dynamic Surroundings over and above the basic block sounds for footsteps. These sounds augment the block acoustic selection to provide additional richness to the auditory experience. (I am getting paid by the big words I use.)

Armor Sound Overlay

The armor the player is wearing in the chest, leggings, and foot slot will produce additional sounds based on it’s type. Currently there are four classes of armor:

  • None - no armor
  • Light - leather armor
  • Medium - chain armor
  • Crystal - diamond armor
  • Heavy - iron/gold armor

When playing a footstep sound Dynamic Surroundings will evaluate the armor worn in the foot, leggings, and chest slots. Based on that type an acoustic profile is selected and added to the blocks acoustic play list. If a player is wearing different classes of armor Dynamic Surroundings will pick the heaviest one defined by the list order above. For example, if the player is wearing a leather chest plate and iron leggings, the Heavy acoustic profile will be selected for play.

The sound overlay for footwear is separate from the sound overlay of the chest/leggings slot. This means that up to two different overlays can play based on the armor the player is wearing. Making the footwear separate allows me to make additional footfall sound accents, and gives more variation if the player is wearing a mixed set of armor.

If the armor sound effect is not desired it can be turned off in the Dynamic Surroundings configuration settings.
