-PCSX2 version: 1.3.0 GIT 05-08-2014

-PCSX2 options: Defaults, no speed-hacks or game-fixes used.

-Plugins used: GSdx, SPU2-X, Lilypad, Linuz ISO/Gigaherz CDVD,rest null plugins

-Plugin settings: Tested GSdx DX11 software and Hardware renderer.

-Description: Text/pop-up boxes (i.e.do you want to quit) appears in the top left, making the wizard virtually unusable (see images below)

-How to replicate: The game these images are taken from is Ratchet Gladiator, however, Other games network wizards seem to also share the issue.

-Last known version to work: Unknown, probably never worked.
-PC specifications: CPU: Intel Core i5 2430M @ 2.4Ghz GPU: Geforce GT 520M OS: Windows 7

I think this issue is already known, but I didn't see a issue for it created in Github

Edit: Log (note that the start of this includes the Ratchet Gladiators, which contained the Net Wizard I got the images from)

This bug also affects hardware mode as-well (forgot to add that)

I also tested ZeroGS (with default settings) and that has the same bug.

Looks interesting enough to check it out. Never seen such error before.

And I suspect this is the same bug as in Xenosaga (#83)

Any news on this? I've heard that the UI in this is actually pretty basic in terms of how it does drawing

@TheLastRar

Is the issue still present on master branch? If yes, providing a GS dump of the issue would be useful. FWIW it's most likely a bug on GSState instead of a software mode exclusive bug, so removing the label.

Could you provide us a gsdump. I can't test net stuff on Linux, no dev9 plugin.

I gave it a look. The bug isn't obvious. I'm not even sure it is a GSdx bug.

What would be the best way to verity that?

Also, regarding the lack of dev9 plugin support, I may be able to hack Linux support for my plugin (via a c++ wrapper and mono). but I know very little on linux dev. are there any recommanded IDEs or guides I can use for C++, and a lightweight distro that can run PCSX2 in a vm (Virturalbox)?

What would be the best way to verity that?

  • having a way to replay GSdump on a real PS2. Did you try play! emulator ?

IDE

  • monodev, MS visual studio (I think there is a limited-version now), QTcreator.

lightweight distro that can run PCSX2 in a vm (Virturalbox)?

  • Don't know. Maybe Xubuntu ?

Via a c++ wrapper and mono.

  • but how do you do on Windows actually ?

having a way to replay GSdump on a real PS2

Is there a loader I'm not aware of?

Did you try play! emulator ?

I did awhile back, none of the games I tried would get to the point where I could open the wizard.
This was a while ago, I'll try again when I get the time.

monodev, MS visual studio (I think there is a limited-version now), QTcreator.

Thanks, I'll look into those.

Via a c++ wrapper and mono.

I use a nuget package called Unmanaged Exports. This converts static methods I've tagged with [DllExport] to a function that behaves like it a native function defined extern c dllexport.

the .Net runtime supports this with the .export MSIL (The intermediate language C# gets compiled to), the extension performs the MSIL injection as a compile time step.

.Net added support for this for C++/CLI, a language intended for native->managed interp. Mono, however does not support the required MSIL instruction.

CoreCLR, I don't know the status of this regarding linux support/stability/availability, as I was not aware of this at the time I was first asked about linux support.

While this is somewhat unrelated to the actual issue, I guess I will post an update about my attempted CLR_DEV9 port.

Xubuntu didn't like gsdx for some reason, even the legacy build. used Lubuntu instead.

Mono really does not like running within PCSX2, It crashes after a short while with only the runtime initialised but with dummy methods for all the plugin functions, something PCSX2 does during emulation conflicts with mono in some unknown to me way. This issue pretty much killed my current port attempt.

I looked into CoreCLR, looks like there is a way to embed it, much like what I tired to do with mono. catch is there are currently only x64 builds of it on Linux, which won't work with a 32bit emulator.

Also, tried Play, but every netplay game I tried crashes before I can open the wizard.

having a way to replay GSdump on a real PS2

Doesn't exist but it could help :)

something PCSX2 does during emulation conflicts with mono in some unknown to me way. This issue pretty much killed my current port attempt.

It could be the memory mapping to fixed addresses or maybe the sigsegv handling. Anyway it is a tough subject.

I found that switching the EE to interpreter avoids the crash,
Under EE interpreter, my port is now allows connection to the internet.

Plugin switching can still crash if you do it too often without restarting PCSX2, this is a Mono issues that I can't work around, but emulation appears crash free.

If the EE recompiler needs to consume SIGSEGV signals, then that is what is causing the crash. Mono uses this signal to detect NullReferenceExceptions, and prevents the parent application from handling it.
I did briefly search though the PCSX2 code for anything that would consume SIGSEGV signals, but couldn't find anything immediately obvious.

If a EE interpreter only plugin is suitable for testing the NetConfig issue, then I can send you a build.

I've found that someone over on the Xlink forms ported an old version of dev9ghzdrk (from 2014, unfortunately no source) and provided a download.

https://www.teamxlink.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?p=238073#238073
With a DL link of https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1V8ElxpDts7NDVPYW81dFBwZE0/view?usp=sharing

Hopefully that would allow you to get into the NetConfig so you can debug the issue yourself.
