There are quite a few issues that can only be fixed by introducing backward incompatible changes. There are also several major improvements and additions coming in the next year. We think it's time to increment to the major version number to 2.0, so signify the importance of this upcoming release. V2.0 will mostly include the backwards incompatible changes, then the enhancements will start to appear in V2.1+
