  • App Name: ".rar" mimetype
  • Icon Name: application-x-rar.svg and application-vnd.rar.svg
  • Description: ".rar" files better have a different icon than zip files because they usually use different programs to open
  • Webpage (optional):https://www.win-rar.com
  • Original Icon:
    48x

I made a Pull Request with a WinRAR icon that I did but I will delete the Pull Request because I did it wrong and will resend the icon here.

If you want to see the WinRAR app icon as a file type, why don't you want to see the Archive Manager icon in the same role?

I feel this icon would be more suited to a WinRAR app icon ran through Wine. not sure why though... I would feel the current Archive mimetype recolored with RAR colors would be more consistent.

To be fair I do not want to see a separate icon for RAR files. This requires providing others icons for others archive files (zip, 7z, and tons of tar.*).

I don't see that as a bad thing. It would make easier to differentiate between different kinds of archives without looking at the filename.

Breeze uses a different color for the most used formats (tar.*, zip, rar and 7z) and reuses some of these for less used ones (single file gz/xz)
breeze example
On Yaru each of them get a different color and a logo (except for xz that doesn't have one apparently)
yaru example

I made an example of how could it look on papirus (for ZIP in this case), wanted to know what do you think

Would a pull request for this be accepted?
