Should've split this into 2 PRs, oh well.
Refactor of update check includes adding of compareVersions function, which validates semver via regex and changes when an update message is printed to console. This could be refined further.
Still not happy with the getVersion function, but that's a task for another time.
This PR also adds a config option to disable update checks and some stylistic changes.
